The Emmy Awards Get Social

The 2010 Emmy Awards are this Sunday, and NBC is using the ceremony to embrace social media in a big way.NBC is using services such as Twitter, yfrog and Ustream to bring a more real-time experience to the event. These services will also let fans and viewers interact with Emmy presenters using social media. Due to time-shift viewing and a growing number of viewing alternatives via cable or the Internet, network television ratings are in a period of decline.

No doubt, you’ve heard of some of these titles, but hopefully you will find something here that will reintroduce you to some old favorites and maybe some new ones as well.

…The story, delineated in six 30 minute episodes, takes place between the end of the Firefly series and before the events of the film Serenity. The incredible writing, voice acting, and production value elevate this piece way above fanfic.

Conan O’Brien, Jack White Team for Surprise Show

Three hundred loyal Team Coco supporters were treated to a concert by Conan O’Brien and his Legally Prohibited touring band at Jack White’s Third Man Studios Thursday in Nashville.

…the band had to stop for a few minutes so that the reel could be changed!” According to reports, the vinyl was already up for pre-ordering for the lucky 300 in attendance, but details regarding the sure-to-be-limited-edition release have not yet been posted on the Third Man Records site.
While Conan and his band took their performance seriously for the most part, O’Brien did have some fun when the band detoured off the set list to cover Radiohead’s “Creep,” a song he previously sound-checked during a Legally Prohibited tour stop in Eugene, Oregon. “This is the only way I can sing Thom Yorke songs, as a 19th-century chimney sweep with a top hat and a smudge on my cheek,” O’Brien said. Midway through the performance, Jack White jumped onstage to put a top hat on Conan’s head. White eventually came onstage, guitar in hand, for the evening’s last song, a cover of Eddie Cochran’s “Twenty Flight Rock.” “This is probably the most fun I’ve had in show business,” O’Brien said prior to the encore.
O’Brien and White…

"Paparazzi" Kid, Greyson Michael Chance, appears on Ellen

…!…

…This kid isn’t even close to as talented as Derek Trucks at age 12, all he has going for him is viral internet video and a music scene that has gone so far downhill that people consider a lady gaga cover to be “genius.”

kid: you have a soulful voice and the start of some talent with the keys. you have a long way to go unless you’re content with selling your soul to be like the backstreet boys or some other talentless band playing someone else’s music just for the dollar it brings in. now’s the time to start bringing your music to creative levels, don’t sell out, stop playing lady gaga covers, and when you get older eat some L. you could be kicking out something that could be considered a contribution to music in the next decade unless your goal is to become the next justin bieber, in which case you’ll live infamously as another music industry tool devoid of artistic ability or creative talent….

What’s Your Top 10 For David Letterman’s Record Label

David Letterman is getting into the music business. His production company, Worldwide Pants Inc., has formed its own record label and it already has its first act.

…Most likely it’s in partnership with Paul Shaffer, which is a good idea.

But, has anyone watched Jimmy Fallon in the last year? His band is fabulous. The musical guests are superb. And the week of May 10,
they are saluting a new documentary based on the Rolling Stones “No Exile on Main Street”.
I’d rather watch Jimmy Fallon.
Letterman is getting old fast in more ways than one.
And he’s just not funny….

Rare Look Inside Devo’s Studio w/ Mark Mothersbaugh [Video]

Mark Mothersbaugh himself gives us a tour through the space and shows us some of his favorite (and strangest) synths and circuit bending noisemakers. The guys even tell us some funny stories of their early Akron days, like the large girls (or “mother hens” as they like to call them) who would circle their equipment to warm it up before playing.

…dinosaur Warner Brothers, the fathers of devolution are making a comeback with a corporate guise (Devo, Inc.), buttressed by a set of focus groups meant to guide their creative process.
Our opinions won’t be swayed: even if the irony is thicker than their synths, the super glossy corporate bit is a typically brilliant trick for the campy new-wavers to recapture the tapering imaginations of kids a) weaned on Lady Gaga and b) who only know Devo because Wes Anderson hearts Mark Mothersbaugh.
Not that they need any more followers. Armed with a new album (and focus-grouped blue energy dome hats) and fresh off a gig at the Winter Olympics Mothersbaugh and the rest of the gang met Motherboard in the band’s amazing spaceship of a studio to talk about their rich and strange musical trip, from basement tinkering in Akron, Ohio to subverting dominant cultural paradigms.
They also share their favorite circuit bent gear and antique synths (including an organ they rescued from Pink Floyd’s garbage), rhaposdize about the…
